join the blongteam

[this post is an archived call for applications page from july 2020]

What’s that? In the blongy distance? Beyond the murky marshes, rhinestoned rainbows? Is that? A FULLY STAFFED Underblong team???

That’s right, our somewhat surprisingly impressive internet following!! We are opening applications for ONE MONTH for a Managing editor and 2-3 Poetry Readers to join the blongteam! These are currently unpaid positions that will sporadically amount to 2-3 hours/week during reading periods. The responsibilities and the links for the positions are as follows:

Poetry Reader:

  • Reads and votes on our blongy submissions

  • Work with editors to select pieces for issues

  • Helps decide order for issues, proofreading skills a bonus

  • Contribute to our underblonging page with your blongiest links

Managing Editor:

  • Work with editors to develop reading schedule, assign pieces to readers and editors

  • Regular check-ins with team to ensure work is getting done by set deadlines

  • Organize timeline for issue release, all pieces voted and responded to

  • Consult with editors on submission process, voting process, response process

  • A special project, perhaps? Reviews? Podcast team lead? A reading series? Reading submissions? (These are all optional projects that we can discuss once you’re more settled in.)

If you are reading these bullet points and find yourself saying “Wow I want to do that!!!!” well then apply below to potentially do exactly that!! We will be reading all applications and then will have phone/zoom interviews with our finalists. We hope to have people selected during the month of July!
